These are now getting nearly impossible to find. They are highly collectable and are usually in horrible condition when they are discovered. This one had exceptional cardboard sides with these beautiful impressions on them. Taking paint the off cardboard is a difficult process requiring great skill and patience. When the old paint was removed the imprints really came to life.
This is an exceptionally beautiful example of what was an everyday item in department stores and hardware stores throughout the country in the 1800’s when many people sewed their own clothes and bought lots of thread at the neighborhood stores.
